Praní a sušení

When climbing, your life literally hangs on the rope — so it's important to keep it clean.

Why it matters

A wet, dirty or frozen rope loses its dynamic properties and its knot strength drops. A clean, dry rope is a safe rope.

How to wash a rope, and what with?

  1. Untie the rope and wash it by hand in lukewarm water up to 30 °C. For better results, use TENDON ROPE CLEANER.

  2. Give the rope a good rinse with clean water so that no cleaning agent is left in the sheath.

  3. Dry it laid out loosely in a dry, shady spot — never in direct sunlight or next to a heater.

No chemicals

The rope must not come into contact with any chemicals. Stop using a rope that has been splashed with chemicals — the damage usually isn't visible at first glance.

How to disinfect a rope?

To disinfect the rope, use a weak 1% potassium permanganate solution or MIRAZYME. Then rinse and dry the rope just as you would after washing.

What harms a rope the most?

  1. Moisture and freezing. A wet or frozen rope loses its dynamic properties — knot strength in particular drops.

  2. Mechanical damage. Rubbing against rock, carabiners and sharp edges; dust getting into the damp structure causes gradual wear.

  3. Heat. Friction when lowering and rappelling can damage the sheath. Whenever possible, always use a rope bag.
